YOKOSUKA, Japan (February 16, 2023) - An AFN Pacific Update highlighting Ikego Elementary School's Firefly Day. Last week, Ikego Elementary School hosted its annual Firefly Day event. The event celebrates the protected firefly habitat, on which the school was built, and seeks to instill students with an appreciation for living in harmony with the natural environment.Dr. Yuichi Oba, a bioluminescence researcher and professor at Chubu University, attended as guest speaker, teaching students about the cultural significance of fireflies, and the biological functions of bioluminescence.
